Our Narrative.
We offer culturally sensitive legal and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals affected by domestic and family violence or sexual assault, with the assistance of our team of lawyers and client service officers.
CAAFLU VISION
All Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders possess an inherent right to live free from the threats of family violence and sexual assault.
CAAFLU MISSION
To provide culturally sensitive legal and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals impacted by family violence or sexual assault in Central Australia and the Barkly Region.
Closing the Gap
By 2031, we are committed to prioritising Target 13 of the Closing the Gap initiative. Our objective is to reduce the incidence of all forms of family violence and abuse against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children by at least 50%, reflecting our commitment to making significant progress towards eliminating such violence entirely.
GOVERNANCE
CAAFLU was established in 2000 and formally incorporated in 2007 under the Corporations (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, with registration from the Office of the Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations.
As a key organisation among the 14 Family Violence Prevention Legal Services operating throughout Australia, CAAFLU is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
It is essential to emphasize that CAAFLU maintains a strong commitment to independence, which is further supported by effective community representation and consultation processes conducted through its elected Board of Directors.
