Latest Sector Response: "Refreshed Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Reduction Framework 2025-2028"

This joint submission from NTCOSS and sector partners, including CAAFLU, provides feedback on the Refreshed Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2025–2028. It represents the voices of Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Services, women’s shelters, safe houses, counselling services, sexual violence specialists and other frontline organisations across the NT.

The submission calls for stronger action to improve safety, wellbeing, and justice outcomes for individuals and communities impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence. It also highlights missed opportunities in the Government’s response to the Coroner’s recommendations following the tragic deaths of Miss Yunupiŋu, Ngeygo Ragurrk, Kumarn Rabuntja and Kumanjayi Haywood.

Joint Media Release: Our Communities Cannot Wait: Urgent Call for Change After Coronial Inquest

The coronial process was not symbolic, it was a necessary act of truth-telling. Families came forward in good faith, with courage and with hope, despite their deep pain. The Coroner listened and provided space for their voices to be heard. Now, the Northern Territory Government must act with the same courage and respect.

Our communities cannot wait. Aboriginal women cannot wait. We need action now.

The NT government’s response to the Coroner’s findings must not be vague or selectively implemented. We call for:

•Full implementation of all coronial recommendations,

•Clear timeframes and transparent commitments,

•Independent oversight, and

•Real accountability to the families and communities most affected.
